The garden has always been a place of repose and retreat. In times when life becomes so hectic and chaotic, there are few relief measures available that can compare to the sweet, nature centered sanctuary that a garden can offer. Victorian gardens have always been among the most beautiful garden landscape motifs. The luxurious landscaping and lush greenery of a well kept Victorian style garden can take away the thoughts of the chaotic necessities of living. As such, these gardens have become a very popular design. Also, for as long as there have been gardens, there have always been garden sheds. Unfortunately, these buildings often come as unsightly blocks that serve to interfere with the flow of the garden design. Many enterprising gardeners, however, have made the humble garden shed into something beautiful, a building which can hold its own amidst the splendor of its surroundings. As there are Victorian style gardens, it is only logical that the Victorian style garden sheds have become a popular piece in gardening design. For those who would want to incorporate a Victorian shed into their gardens, a good first step is to begin with colors. Colors have always been one of the strong elements of Victorian design. Victorian colors, in particular, have always been from the most vibrant and passionate ends of the spectrum of colors. For your outdoor shed, a few colors you would want to integrate would be vivid greens, rich and dark browns and a contrast of light and fanciful colors such as light yellow and gold. Victorian design is nothing without Victorian patterns. For the walls, ceilings and floors of your Victorian garden shed, think of complex, mesmerizing patterns such as vines and flowers motif crawling along the edges of the ceiling. In particular, floral patterns are in good favor and usually come in scrolled floral patterns with dark red, blue and green backgrounds and foregrounds of different shades of cream and tan. This mood for exotic and mesmerizing curves also extends to the trellises, support beams and rails of your shed. Think of Gothic inspired carvings around your pillars, curving semi-oblique details around your ceiling cornices, exotic pediments over your doorway and, possibly frescoes on your ceilings. That last one may be too much, but this design has always celebrated a bit of excess. Therefore, your shed can also be designed excesses in mind. Go for rich, vibrant colors and accent it with light and pastel colors. Put up Gothic inspired pillars. Add curling, curving, mesmerizing accents in and around your building.
