Garden sheds,
storage sheds, pool cabanas and playhouses are a
great home improvement project.
Garden sheds
are easy to put together, and they have an endless
number of uses. You could use a small storage shed to
keep your gardening tools dry, to keep all the pool
maintenance equipment on hand when you need it, or
just to have a safe, secure place for bikes and
scooters. A larger backyard shed could be a home
office, a quiet studio where you can pursue your
hobbies in peace, or a sturdy playhouse for the kids.
If you’re reasonably handy with a hammer and nails,
you can put together a garden shed in no time.
You’ll
find a huge range of downloadable shed plans, which
provide you with all the information you need to build
your own backyard shed, including materials and tools
lists, cost estimates, complete instructions with
diagrams and photographs, and cut sheets. Some shed
plans even come with video instructions. If you’re
short on time, or if you’re a DIY first timer, shed
kits make the job even easier. The shed kit will
include all of the components pre cut and drilled, so
all you have to do is assemble the shed together.
Choosing materials for your
backyard shed project.
Regardless of what type of garden or backyard shed
you’re planning to build, you have two basic choices
when it comes to shed building materials; natural
timber or wood composite. A wood composite shed will
cost less to build, and require less maintenance,
while natural red cedar has a magnificent classic
look. Whether you’re building your backyard shed using
a shed kit or from scratch using a
shed plan, you can
choose either or these materials.
