Elegant, durable
vinyl trellises will look beautiful in your
garden for many years to come.
Trellises are becoming an increasingly popular
garden landscaping feature, and it’s not hard to see
why. They are very inexpensive and easy to set up and
maintain, and they give your garden a charming,
old-world feel. Vinyl
trellises have a very attractive look, while
they’re amazingly durable and require practically no
maintenance. Trellises made from vinyl come in a
wonderful range of sizes, shapes and colors, to suit a
wide variety of architectural styles. A vinyl trellis
may be freestanding, or it may form part of a
freestanding arbor. Trellises may also be placed
against a wall, turning a dull, blank space into a
magnificent vertical flower garden.
What types of
plants can you grow on a trellis?
You can grow all kinds of plants on a trellis,
depending on the size of the lattice, and the load
bearing capacity of the trellis structure itself. A
trellis made from vinyl PVC material has a similar
look to a natural timber trellis, and has a similar
weight bearing capacity. A good gardening supplier
will advise you on which particular plants will grow
well on your trellis, and which are best suited to the
climate in your area, but climbing hydrangea,
magnificent bougainvillea, and delicate sweet pea and
jasmine are very popular. Roses look absolutely
wonderful on a large trellis or arbor, but they will
tend to be very heavy, so a large, strong trellis will
be required. Some climbing plants are very good at
grasping onto the lattice of a trellis, and don’t need
much encouragement, while others will need to be tied
to the trellis with strips of pantyhose or nylon
thread.
