Window greenhouse kits make it easy to set up your own mini-greenhouse.

If you don’t have enough room in the backyard for a full size greenhouse, but you love the idea of a small greenhouse for nurturing flowers, small shrubs and herbs, a window greenhouse is the perfect solution. Imagine having a beautiful flower bed right outside your bedroom window where you will see it first thing every morning when you wake up. You could also have a supply of fresh herbs growing outside your kitchen window, ready to use whenever you need them.

Anyone with a little know-how and a few willing helpers can set up a simple window greenhouse using a window greenhouse kit. The kits contain either the complete window greenhouse unit pre-fabricated and ready to install, or all the components pre-cut and ready to assemble, along with a complete set of instructions. You’ll find a great range of attractive, inexpensive, easy-to-assemble window greenhouses on this site.

Things to consider when choosing your window greenhouse.

It’s important to remember that the window greenhouse will form an architectural feature of your house, so it’s important to choose one which will match the style of your house. Window greenhouses come in natural timber, for a more traditional look, or other materials like durable aluminum and super strong plastic resin, which are more suited to homes with a sleek, contemporary style. Some window greenhouses include side window panels which can be opened for ventilation, and some include shelves to accommodate small plants like herbs.

For the greenhouse cover material, glass is generally the most attractive, and transmits light most effectively. Acrylic is much lighter, and virtually unbreakable, but can yellow with age. It’s also possible to use fiberglass or plastic sheeting for your window greenhouse. These are generally cheaper but less durable and less effective for the transmission of light.
