Choosing Arbor Plans for your Garden

Before you purchase arbor plans, you should first look at your garden and consider the overall design. Traditionally, an arbor functions as an entrance or gateway from one area of the garden to another. However, you can find arbor plans that include a built in seat for relaxing and enjoying your garden. We have an arbor with a gate that divides the front and back garden, and on the sunny side of the house we have a garden arbor trained with old-fashioned climbing roses that leads to our patio. I also constructed and arbor at the entrance to our herb garden and trained grapes on it. If you are as crazy about arbors as we are, arbor plans are the way to go because of the variety of designs and the ability to build exactly what you want.

Different garden arbor plans may incorporate these features:

-         Bench

-         Gate

-         Lattice or trellis sides

-         Round or square top

-         Room for a table or bench

When reviewing arbor plans look for the following:

-         Complete material list

-         Diagrams and detailed drawings

-         Step-by-step instructions

-         Photos of the completed garden arbor

If you’re planning on growing vines on your garden arbor, make sure you review the arbor plans to ensure the arbor can withstand the weight of the vines. You should also review the arbor plans to make sure the arbor will be the right size for your garden. You don’t want the arbor to be so big that it occupies a big portion of your garden or too small that a bench or table you are planning won’t fit under it. The nice thing about using detailed arbor plans is that it’s easy to make modifications to the arbor to make it bigger or smaller to accommodate your space.
